MC Miniatures
A quick review of MC Miniatures epic scale figures.
I purchased these from Nerad Games (neradgames.com) in the UK. I understand that there are a range of licenced printers that will do these.
For those of us who are keen to have more figure/army options for Warlord (WL) epic scale Napoleonic's there is a bunch of third party people doing the 3D printing thing. I have already have a few units of 3D print (painted unit in the photos for comparison).

Here is another option, MC Miniatures. So I have procured a number of Prussian figures - Cuirassiers, Landwehr, Line in greatcoats, skirmishers to match the infantry, reserves and some guns and command. The main attraction is they do a number of uniforms/units that WL do not produce and can give a variety to your army (Landwehr with shakos and Prussian cuirassiers. WOOT!).
So out of the box. I like these a lot. The sculpts are crisp and minimal flash. They are very much in the style of the WL strips but do seem a little more 'full' in the body. They do not have the detail and animation of the other 3D printed figures I have. A slightly annoying note is they are a little smaller than the WL figures (see the comparison photos, the WL ones are on the right and have been primed), but as long as you are not mixing figures this will not be that noticeable. That the musket/bayonet hights will be different may annoy some, but I see this as breaking up some of the over-uniformity of the WL units.

They should paint up will with relief details but they lack some of the fin detail I see in the other 3D prints. To be fair, my other figures were designed at a larger scale and then sized down to the epic scale.
The infantry come in strips of five men with 16 strips (one of these is command). This will make up as standard four base unit or you can very easily do the 1/2 base thing some people like. I'll be adding these to the regular Warlord bases just to keep my army constant. note that you will have to add your own flag pole, as the standard bearer has his hands empty.
Cavalry are individual. and are in the pack of 20.
The command figures have a nice range of uniforms and I wish I had grabbed the other packet of command figures as i like to have these looking as individual as possible, hard when the WL spues only give you one option.
The skirmishers round out my collections, a good range of poses and these are by far better then the WL ones, really benefiting from being a print rather then a molding that has difficulties with detail across the median/sagittal plane. Actually, this is a noticeable thing with all of these figures, particularly the cavalry.
So, as I said at the top, I like these A Lot. Not as detailed as some of the offerings out there, but at this scale, high detail is lost anyway. Yes, I would like more poses in the cavalry, but nothing I cant live with.
Now the fun bit is they have many of the other armies that WL do not do. France, Brittan, Prussia (includes pre-1808 uniforms) , Austria, Russia, Poland, Saxony, Italy, Bavaria, Spain, Brunswick and Dutch-Belgians.

Do you have any suggestions on where to source flagstaffs for these? I bought the STLs for the Hannover Landwehr but they don't come with a flagstaff either. Kind of frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI use cut down wire spears - you can buy spears for various places. Google is useful.
